What Garmin Connect+ includes, and what it costs

Garmin Connect+ is the paid subscription for the Garmin Connect app: $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year in the US, with a 30-day trial for new subscribers (credit card required). Garmin notes that features vary by device and region. It includes:

  • Active Intelligence, AI-generated insights based on your health and activity data;
  • a customizable performance dashboard (desktop only) and live activity on your phone;
  • expert guidance and videos for Run Coach, Cycling Coach, Triathlon Coach and Fitness Coach plans;
  • nutrition tracking, enhanced LiveTrack, Garmin Trails and 3D maps;
  • a yearly rundown, exclusive badges and subscriber-only offers.

What stays in Garmin Connect without a subscription

According to Garmin's comparison chart, the core of the app stays available without a subscription: details of every activity, health stats, performance metrics, Garmin Coach plans, challenges and badges, the workout database, course building and LiveTrack. Only the CIRQA band needs Connect+ for plans and exercises.

Garmin Active Intelligence: what the AI feature actually does

Active Intelligence shows AI-generated insights on the Garmin Connect app home screen, updated throughout the day from your health and activity data and how you use your device. According to Garmin's support site:

  • it's off by default: you have to opt in from the app settings;
  • insights don't appear on the watch, and a viewed insight stays visible for 15 minutes;
  • languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Traditional Chinese;
  • once your subscription ends, no new insights are generated.

Garmin's support pages describe insights that arrive on their own; they describe neither open conversation nor AI-built workouts, and say more features may be added later.

What an assistant connected through Running Workout does differently

An assistant connected through Running Workout doesn't push insights at you: you ask the questions. Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini reads your Garmin Connect activities in detail (pace, heart rate, splits), answers, compares two weeks, then builds a structured workout and sends it to your Garmin Connect calendar.

AI insights on your data Yes: Active Intelligence, on the app home screen Yes: in answer to your questions, in Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini

What the AI reads Health and activity data Activities, profile, goals; not sleep or Body Battery
Nutrition, 3D maps, enhanced LiveTrack Yes No
Price $6.99/month or $69.99/year (US) Free to start (4 workouts a month), Pro €4.90/month or €35/year

Depending on the assistant, add the plan that gives access to connectors: each assistant's connection guide spells it out. Running Workout reads Garmin only and doesn't replace a doctor.

Connect+, Running Workout, or both?

They complement each other: both read the same Garmin Connect account, and nothing stops you from using both.

  • Connect+, if you want insights that arrive on their own, nutrition tracking, 3D maps, Garmin Trails or enhanced LiveTrack.
  • Connect+, if you follow Run Coach and want the expert videos and articles that go with it.
  • An assistant connected through Running Workout, if you want to ask questions and get workouts built around your race and your constraints.
  • Both, if you like the app's insights and also want a coach you can talk to.
