Preparing for the 2026 Frankfurt Marathon: the fast late-October marathon

The Frankfurt Marathon is run at the end of October, with a unique red-carpet finish inside the Festhalle. Flat, fast and impeccably organised, it is the choice of runners chasing a time without Berlin's crowds. Here is its preparation with a plan that reads your Garmin data.

A course of skyscrapers and villages

The start is at the foot of the banking district towers, then the course heads out to Höchst before coming back along the Main. About 60 metres of climbing, a few cobbles in old Höchst, and a long final straight.

Late-October temperatures are perfect, often between 6 and 12 °C. The plan schedules a cool-weather long run in your race kit to test it.

Preparation: the ideal window

Late October is the best window on the calendar: the plan starts in July for 16 weeks, the heavy load falls in cool September, and the taper happens in October. It is the simplest marathon to prepare for a runner who works and goes on holiday in August.

The AI coach builds the long-run progression from 90 minutes to 2 h 45, never more than 15% extra volume from one week to the next, and watches the training load read from Garmin to avoid September overreaching.

The finish in the Festhalle

The last 300 metres are run indoors, on a red carpet, under the spotlights. Many runners speed up too early, as soon as they leave the last straight. Wait until you see the hall's gate.

On the rest of the course the plan's instruction is standard for a flat route: first three kilometres at target pace plus 10 seconds, target pace afterwards, fuel every 20 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

When is the 2026 Frankfurt Marathon?

The last Sunday of October, traditionally. Check the official date before entering it in your plan.

Is Frankfurt a fast marathon?

Yes, one of Germany's fastest after Berlin: flat, sheltered, temperate, with reliable pacers for all common target times.

Does the plan account for August holidays?

Yes. The coach reads your actual sessions on Garmin and adjusts what follows; a lighter August week is absorbed without catching up.
