What is identical
The connector's 23 tools, the coach's instructions, the reading of your Garmin profile, the plans, workout creation and the weekly review. Whichever assistant, a created workout reaches the watch the same way and the coach applies the same rules: never an invented VMA, never a write without confirmation.
Your data stays with Running Workout and Garmin: the assistant reads it during the conversation, it does not store it.
What changes
Claude reads the coach's instructions carried by the connector itself: nothing to configure, coaching starts at the first sentence. ChatGPT, through its app directory, asks for explicit confirmation at every write, which is safer and a little slower. Gemini requires manual connector configuration and does not always relay clickable links.
The quality of reasoning over a training week is comparable across the three. The difference shows mostly in answer length and adherence to confirmation rules.
Which to choose
The one you already use. If you have none, Claude offers the simplest installation, in one click from the website. ChatGPT suits you if you want confirmation at every action. Gemini works but needs more settings.

Do you need a paid subscription?
Custom connectors require a paid subscription on all three assistants as of 19 September 2026. Running Workout itself is free.
Can I switch assistant mid-plan?
Yes: the plan, notes and workouts live in your Running Workout account, not in the assistant. Connect the new one, the coach picks up where it was.
Are answers in my language?
Yes: the coach reads your profile's language and answers in it, French or English, with paces in your units.
