Connect Garmin to Mistral Le Chat, now Vibe: your runs in, your workouts on the watch

Connect your Garmin to Running Workout, add a custom connector in Vibe, the new name of Mistral's Le Chat, and approve the access: your next request can read your runs and send a workout to your watch. According to Mistral's pricing page as of October 27, 2026, these connectors, still in beta, are part of every plan. Here are the steps, taken from Mistral's documentation.

  • « Look at my Garmin runs from the last two weeks and tell me whether my training load is rising too fast. »

  • « Build a threshold workout for Wednesday: 15 min warm-up, 3 × 8 min at threshold pace with 2 min recovery, 10 min cool-down, and send it to my watch. »

  • « I did a 6-minute test this morning with my Garmin: work out my MAS from that run and offer to save it to my profile. »

Le Chat is now called Vibe, and it accepts MCP connectors

Yes, Mistral AI's assistant can link to Garmin through Running Workout. Le Chat was renamed Vibe at the end of May 2026; the address (chat.mistral.ai), accounts and conversations stayed the same. Vibe accepts custom MCP connectors: you give it a server address and it signs in with OAuth 2.1 and dynamic client registration, exactly what Running Workout offers. Once linked, Vibe reads your Garmin activities and profile, and sends structured workouts to Garmin Connect.

Mistral plan Custom MCP connector Who adds it
Free Yes, in beta You: the account owner is the admin
Pro and Student Yes, in beta You
Team and Enterprise Yes, in beta A workspace admin

Running Workout has not yet been tried in Vibe: the steps come from Mistral's documentation, and the Running Workout server follows the standard it describes. If a step differs from what you see, the "If something goes wrong" section tells you what to do.

Step by step: add Running Workout to Vibe

On chat.mistral.ai, from a computer. The labels below are the ones used in Mistral's documentation.

  • Create your account on runningworkout.fr by signing in on Garmin's site, and turn on "Historical Data" on the Garmin screen so your past runs can be read.
  • In Vibe, open the "Connectors" page from the sidebar, click "+ Add Connector" and switch to the "Custom MCP Connector" tab.
  • Connector name: RunningWorkout, with no spaces or special characters, as Mistral requires. Server URL: https://www.runningworkout.fr/mcp
  • Click "Connect": Vibe detects the OAuth sign-in and sends you to runningworkout.fr, where you approve the authorization screen.
  • In a conversation, click "+" or type "/", choose "Tools" and turn on Running Workout, then make your request.

Once the workout is sent, sync your watch with the Garmin Connect app: it shows up in your training calendar on the date you asked for.

In the conversation: Vibe asks before it acts

By default, Vibe asks for your approval each time it calls a connector function. With Running Workout that is useful: you approve the workout before it goes to your watch. If the read requests get tiresome, Mistral's documentation lets you pre-authorize function by function: "Connectors", "My Connectors" tab, the Running Workout card, "Functions" tab, "Always allow" toggle.

Mistral also flags a limit of custom connectors: dynamic tool discovery is not supported yet. If a Running Workout tool seems to be missing, disconnect and reconnect the connector.

If something goes wrong

Symptom Likely cause What to do
No "+ Add Connector" Team or Enterprise account: admins only Ask your admin to add the connector
Vibe answers without your runs Connector not turned on for the request "+" or "/", then "Tools": turn on Running Workout
Nothing in the mobile app Mistral's documentation does not cover custom connectors on mobile Use chat.mistral.ai
"No activities" "Historical Data" declined on the Garmin screen Re-authorize Garmin from Running Workout with the setting on

If nothing works, the same connection works with Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini CLI: see the guides at the bottom of the page. As for your data: Mistral AI is a French company, Running Workout is hosted in France by OVHcloud, and according to Mistral, data read through its connectors is never used to train its models, whatever the plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can the free Le Chat plan connect to Garmin?

According to Mistral's pricing page as of October 27, 2026, yes: custom MCP connectors, in beta, are listed in the Free plan as well as Pro, Team and Enterprise, and on a Free account the owner is the admin, so you add it yourself.

What about the Le Chat or Vibe mobile app?

Mistral says Vibe also works in its iOS and Android apps, without saying how custom connectors behave on mobile. Add the connector on chat.mistral.ai, then try in the app: if Running Workout does not appear under "Tools", stick to the web version.

What data does Vibe see?

Only what the Running Workout connector gives it: your Garmin activities and their detail (pace, heart rate, laps), your profile (MAS, max heart rate, training load), your goals and notes. It only writes planned workouts, never touches your activity history, and you can cut access at any time from Running Workout or by disconnecting the connector in Vibe.

Why can't I find "Le Chat" anymore?

Because Mistral renamed it Vibe in 2026; chat.mistral.ai, accounts and history were kept. According to Mistral, the old Chat tab and Work mode have been merging into a single interface since September 22, Free, Pro and Team accounts first: that is where connectors are set up.

Is Running Workout free?

Free to start: Garmin connection, plans, reading your activities and 4 workouts a month sent to your watch. Running Workout Pro (€4.90 a month or €35 a year, no commitment) removes the limit.
