From Saint-Cloud to the Meudon Observatory: 13.5 miles and 1,804 ft of climbing

The Trail 20 km leaves the Domaine National de Saint-Cloud in waves from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and finishes in Meudon, on the terrace of the Observatoire de Paris – PSL. The organizer lists 21.8 km (13.5 miles), 550 m (1,804 ft) of climbing, 90% off-road and a few solid climbs along the way; the time limit is 4 h 30 min, with a maximum of 3,500 runners.

It is one of the Sunday races of the Salomon EcoTrail Paris spring edition, on March 20–21, 2027, which also offers a 10 km, a 30 km, a 35 km, a 45 km starting in the gardens of the Château de Versailles, an 80 km finishing on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, and a 120 km.

Running Workout's half marathon plan, chosen here for the 13.5-mile distance, is a road plan: your assistant adds hill workouts and adapts it to the terrain, creating those workouts and sending them to your watch.

Three workouts for 1,804 ft of climbing

Over 13.5 miles and 1,804 ft of climbing, the difference is made on the hills and in how well you get going again at the top. Three workouts to ask your assistant for; it creates them and sends them to your watch:

  • Long hills: 20 min warm-up, 6 × 3 min uphill at threshold pace, jog back down, 10 min cool-down.
  • Short hills and restart: 10 × 1 min uphill at about 95% of MAS, recovery jogging down, then 10 min at half marathon pace on the flat.
  • Trail long run: 1 h 30 min to 1 h 45 min easy on a hilly route, keeping the effort easy on the climbs.

The half marathon plan keeps its MAS (maximal aerobic speed) and threshold sessions on flat ground; hill workouts come on top or replace a session, depending on what you ask. Paces come from your MAS read from Garmin.

Ten weeks in the heart of winter

Race day is March 21: the plan's ten weeks, from January 11 to March 21, run through winter, often in the dark on weekdays and on sometimes muddy trails at weekends. On icy days, ask your assistant to swap the planned hill session for a road version: it sends the new version to your watch.

Missed a week? Your assistant reads your Garmin activities, reviews the week and reshuffles the rest of the plan without trying to catch up.

Gear and race day

Even over 20 km, the organizer requires minimum gear, with penalties if anything is missing: a cup of at least 15 cl (5 oz), a survival blanket, a charged phone with an emergency number, ID and a means of payment. Bib pickup is on Thursday, March 18, or Friday, March 19, from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Centre sportif Émile-Anthoine, with a 2026-2027 French federation (FFA) licence or a PPS certificate.

On race day, the start can be reached by tram T2 (Musée de Sèvres) or metro line 9 (Pont de Sèvres). Several formats were sold out in late October 2026: check the 20 km registration status on the official site.
