From the Geneva countryside to the Mont-Blanc Bridge

The start is on Chemin Frank Thomas in Cologny, and the finish is on the Mont-Blanc Bridge, facing the Jet d'Eau. The marathon is a single loop: a first section through the Geneva countryside, then the finish in the heart of the city, by the lake. The official guidelines for the 2027 Swiss Championships list a paved course with 160 m (525 ft) of elevation gain and 200 m (656 ft) of descent, certified by Swiss Athletics.

Time limit: 6 hours. Pacers run from 3:00 to 5:00, and this 21st edition hosts the Swiss marathon championships. The race is open to licensed and unlicensed runners who turn 18 in the race year or are older.

Three workouts that prepare this profile

525 ft up and 656 ft down: moderate elevation, with a finish lower than the start. You need to climb without wearing yourself out and keep strength for the second half. Three workouts your AI assistant can build at your paces and send to your watch:

  • Hills: 8 × 1 minute uphill at about 95% of your MAS, jog back down, to get over the climbs without breaking your pace.
  • A 2-hour hilly long run with the last 30 minutes at marathon pace, on a loop with climbs and descents.
  • Marathon pace: 3 × 2 miles, 2 minutes recovery, in the second half of a 90-minute run, to hold pace on tired legs.

Training from late winter into spring

For May 9, the 12-week plan starts on Monday, February 15: base building in late winter, long runs in March, peak week in mid-April, taper from April 26. Easter (March 28, 2027) falls mid-training, and Ascension Thursday (May 6) during race week.

A week missed over the Easter holidays or while traveling? Your assistant compares what was planned with what Garmin recorded, applies the plan's rules (repeat the week or move on) and sends the next one to your watch. Coming from far away? It can also move a workout in your Garmin Connect calendar to fit your trip.
