Moving the race date: what the plan resets, and when it is too late
A cancelled race, a transferred bib, a minor injury: the race date changes more often than you think. Your AI coach moves it in one sentence and resets the plan. Here is what it adjusts depending on whether the race moves later or earlier, and the lead time below which it prefers to change the goal.

Race postponed
If the new date is more than three weeks away, the coach keeps the plan and inserts weeks: an extra assimilation week first, then a repeat of the last build block if the shift exceeds four weeks. The taper moves behind the new date.
You lose nothing: the fitness built holds for three to four extra weeks without issue.
Race brought forward
If the new date is more than three weeks away, the coach cuts the end of the build block and keeps the full taper. If it is less than three weeks for a marathon, or two for a half, it tells you frankly: the race will be run on current fitness, as a "finish" goal or with a revised time.
It never compresses the taper below ten days: that is what decides the time, not the last long run.
How to ask
One sentence is enough: "the race has moved to 12 April". The coach updates the plan, reads you the new week calendar, and shifts sessions already on the watch. Nothing is written before your confirmation.
- Postponed by 3 to 8 weeks: weeks inserted, taper moved.
- Brought forward to under 3 weeks: current fitness, revised goal.
- More than 8 weeks: new plan.
If the date changes by more than eight weeks, the coach proposes starting a fresh plan, set on your actual current fitness read from Garmin, rather than stretching a plan designed for another date.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change race at the same time as date?
Yes: new race, new date, possibly new course. The coach adds hills if the new course is hilly.
What happens to the week already pushed to the watch?
Sessions stay on the watch if they keep their place in the reset plan; otherwise the coach moves or deletes them, and tells you.
How many times can I move it?
As often as needed. Each change is noted in your history, and the coach will flag it if successive shifts end up pushing the goal away.
